REEM HASSAN .. VSUAL ARTIST
based in Alexandria -Egypt

I am a visual artist living and working between Alexandria and Riyadh.

My artistic journey began in 1990, and since then, I have continuously explored and experimented across various fields of visual arts, using painting, sculpture, and conceptual visual representation as mediums to express my intellectual and artistic vision.

I hold a PhD in the Philosophy of Fine Arts and currently serve as a professor at the College of Design and Arts at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University. I strive to merge academic practice with personal artistic experience, maintaining a dynamic balance between theory and creation.

I have participated in numerous local and international exhibitions and have been actively involved in several artist residency programs, particularly through the Triangle Arts Trust in various African and European countries. These experiences have allowed me to engage with diverse visual cultures, which have deeply enriched my artistic practice.

Recently, my projects have been rooted in a profound understanding of Arab and Islamic visual history. Since 2022, I have been working on a long-term project that reinterprets illustrated Ottoman manuscripts of the Prophet’s biography in a contemporary visual language. Through this work, I aim to revive and modernize the manuscript’s conceptual essence by drawing inspiration from its original visual elements while presenting them through a contemporary lens.

I have received several prestigious awards, including the Alexandria Biennale for Mediterranean Countries, the Cairo International Biennale, and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award in the United States. These recognitions have provided meaningful momentum for continued experimentation and visual research.
